The ZenFone AR will come with the Android 7.0 Nougat OS, 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and will be available in the USA in summer 2017.

Google's Tango is one of the most ambitious such projects, bringing augmented reality capabilities to Android devices.

Asus' ZenFone AR first hit the scene at CES in January this year without a release date or price tag. The ASUS ZenFone AR will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and support apps made for Google's Daydream and Tango platforms.

Daydream is Google's new VR platform while Tango is an augmented reality (AR) system. This should translate into better sales for the successor, especially as consumers become more curious with both augmented reality and virtual reality. It doesn't need Global Positioning System to do that but it can effectively make AR experiences and apps that take advantage of 3D mapping, environmental recognition, and indoor navigation. The phone is not only AR capable but also VR capable, making Project Tango and Daydream work seamlessly. Tango technology allows the ZenFone AR to "detect how far it is away from a floor, wall, or an object and understand where it is moving in three-dimensional space", according to Asus. There's 6GB of RAM on board, along with 128GB of built-in storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor to keep everything humming along.

The company also says, "For VR, the large, high-resolution and high-contrast display of the ZenFone AR makes it ideal for VR applications when used as a VR display mounted in the Daydream View headset". The ASUS Zenfone AR is also likely to come with a generous amount of RAM - with some reports even saying that it could get up to 8GB of RAM. In fact, the phone is also said to feature a 5-magnet speaker with Hi-Res Audio and DTS Headphone:X technology along with DTS HD Premium sound.
