Texas Tech tops Sam Houston 6-0, reaches final of regional

The Red Raiders will face off against the victor of the Arizona-Sam Houston State game Saturday at 6 p.m.at Rip Griffin Park.

Arizona's season officially ended Sunday after a 9-3 loss to Sam Houston State. The Wildcats finished the season with an overall record of 38-21.

After pitching a scoreless tenth inning against DE the previous day, Cody Deason got the start on the mound for the Wildcats. With the loss, DE was eliminated from the Lubbock Regional.

"I'm proud of our team, I'm proud of their accomplishments this season", Arizona coach Jay Johnson said. Gingery struck out the next batter and sophomore first baseman Riley McKnight got caught stealing to end the inning. He moved over to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Jared Oliva.

Bryce Johnson had a pair of RBI singles for the Bearkats.

After the double, Arizona called to the bullpen and brought in junior Landon Faulkner. He gave way to Hayden Wesneski in the fourth and after giving up two RBI singles to the first two hitters he faced, proceeded to retire 14 of the next 18 hitters he faced. Grisham then capped the inning with his first hit of the day, a single to right field to score Rojas.

Boyd launched his first career HR in his last at bat in the ninth inning. Cal Stevenson then tapped a soft grounder down the first base line to end the frame.
