Here's a good astronomy tip from the Farmers' Almanac: If you're looking at the full moon Friday night and you spot a small object that appears to be a bright star with a yellow-white glow, shining near the lower right side of the moon, that's the planet Saturn.

The strawberry moon will hit its fullest point in the morning - at 8:10 a.m. on June 9 - but it will appear almost full both tonight and Friday night, according to astronomers.

Those who head outside to check out the moon were in for an extra treat. So it will be the smallest moon of the year.

However, sky gazers in some parts of Alaska and those rising early in Hawaii may be able to enjoy the full spectacle. This point will be occupied on June 8, and that's why the moon of June 9 will appear so small. June's full moon is also called mini moon because the moon will be at its "apogee" - the farthest distance from the Earth.

When a scientist refers to a minimoon, they mean a moon which is at or nearing its apogee. Much of tonight the moon will be a small fraction more lit than Friday night. This is common among some of the native people of northeastern it marks the ripening moment of wild strawberries in their regions.

The moon's orbit around the Earth is not in a ideal circle, so some months a full moon is closer to our planet than it is in other months.
