"She's exhausted of the..." She was killed by the cult while 8 1/2 months pregnant with Polanski's child.

The director fled to France in 1978 before he was due to be sentenced for having unlawful sex with a minor. Technically, LA Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon will take the request under consideration and did not issue an immediate ruling.

Now 54, she has said repeatedly that she forgives Polanski but she has never previously appealed directly to a judge on his behalf.

Polanski's lawyers have been fighting for years to end the case and lift an global arrest warrant that has confined the 83-year-old to France, Poland and Switzerland where he fled during the Holocaust prior to arriving in the U.S.

Polanski fled the country after learning a judge might not go along with a short jail term he expected to get in exchange for his plea.

She added: "It just wasn't as traumatic for me as everyone thinks it was". Prosecutors dropped charges that he drugged, raped and sodomized Geimer when she was 13 years old.

The warrant prevented him from collecting his Academy Award for best director for his 2002 film "The Pianist".

Geimer wrote in the letter that she is "outraged that you continue to cover up the misconduct that has occurred in this case, which began 40 years ago and continues today", and implored them to "DO YOUR JOB!"

Geimer, who was 13 years old when Polanski assaulted her in Los Angeles in 1977, was greeted by a phalanx of photographers and TV crews as she arrived for a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court.

Under intense public scrutiny, the judge reneged on his promise, telling the attorneys in chambers that he would send Polanski back to prison for the remaining 48 days, after which the director would have to voluntarily deport himself or face a much lengthier sentence. The trial judge in the case found "substantial evidence of oppressive conduct by Polanski and a strong likelihood that a jury would find despicable conduct on the part of Polanski".

Mr Braun claims the case is no more than a "political circus" and that Polanski has already served his time by spending more than 300 days in jail and house arrest in Switzerland during a failed extradition attempt seven years ago.

Polanski, whose films include Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist, was arrested on United States warrants in both Poland and Switzerland during the past decade, but both countries ultimately declined to extradite him.

The latest development in Polanski's continuing effort to end the four-decade-old case came in April when a Los Angeles County judge refused to sentence the director in absentia on the grounds that he remains a fugitive.

Polanski plied the girl with champagne and part of a sedative pill before raping her, according to grand jury transcripts.

Following the hearing, Geimer told reporters that she empathized with Polanski who was now facing the same type of abuse that she endured after the assault in 1977.

"A 40-year sentence has been imposed on the victim of the crime as well as the perpetrator".
