Delhi wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and Uttar Pradesh left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav have replaced Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian team for the six-match limited-over series against the West Indies to be played in Trinidad, Antigua and Jamaica from June 23.

Confusion over chief coach Anil Kumble continued to dog Indian cricket even as the 15-member squad for the tour of West Indies was announced on Thursday. It means Kapil Malhotra will continue to be the team manager. Both had a great Indian Premier League campaign in 2017 and the call ups might be a result of those performances.

With Rohit not there, Pant could be a choice for an opener but as has been the norm, Ajinkya Rahane will be the top contender to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan.

There are also some notable exclusion from the side that are playing in the Champions Trophy. It is possible - provided Kumble agrees - that he will get an extension for the West Indies series while the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI, which comprises Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, decides on the next coach.

In the case of Bumrah, there has been tremendous workload since the start of IPL and West Indies tour will give Mohammed Shami some good game time.

Both Pant and Kuldeep made their global debuts earlier this year but neither has played in one-day internationals so far.

Shikhar Dhawan will carry out opening duties along with Ajinkya Rahane and Pant, while the middle order will continue to be marshaled by the likes of Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni.
