Former UFC Champion Injured After Truck Collides with Train in IL

UFC hall-of-famer Matt Hughes was airlifted to hospital today after his truck was hit by a train.

White says Hughes suffered head trauma and his family is on their way out to be with him.

Per Okamoto, White didn't know where the crash occurred but said Hughes was helping his friend at the time.

The former welterweight champion was airlifted to a medical facility.


Illinois State Police said Hughes' pickup was traveling on a road in central Illinois when the driver crossed railroad tracks marked with a warning. The train struck the passenger side of the truck Hughes was in.

Hughes was in IL helping a friend with some work when the accident occurred, per White.

Matt Hughes was involved in a vehicle accident on Friday morning.

Hughes, 43, was a two-time All-American wrestler at Eastern Illinois before transitioning to mixed martial arts after college.
