Camille Cosby thanked her husband's defense team of Brian J. McMonagle and Angela C. Agrusa for "their hard work" and "passionate and powerful articulations of truths".

"I personally can not thank Andrea Constand enough", she said.

Cindra Ladd, in a statement issued through her spokesman, said she takes "comfort knowing that Bill Cosby's life is now, and forever will be, a living hell".

She said she hopes the case is a wakeup call for women in assault cases, saying they need to get to a hospital immediately to "get that DNA saved". Allred represents many of those women.

The actor's wife said she was grateful to any of the jurors "who tenaciously fought to review the evidence; which is the rightful way to make a sound decision...ultimately, that is a manifestation of justice, based on facts, not lies".

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done. They told Judge Steven O'Neill on the fourth day that they could not reach a unanimous verdict.

As the mistrial was declared, Cosby had a flat, blank look on his face. Cosby had been unfaithful to his wife, the defense allowed, but the sexual encounter between Cosby and Constand had been a consensual one. "Anything can happen in this world", Jim Carrey, who said he had Cosby's albums back in the day but who also knows from being the target of salacious claims, said on The Howard Stern Show last week.

Masten was among the Cosby accusers who responded to CNN requests for reaction to the mistrial.

Cosby's longtime spokesperson, Andrew Wyatt, made a statement of his own, declaring that "Mr. Cosby's power is back".

Lena Dunham has spoken out about the Cosby mistrial in a series tweets. A former employee of Cosby's alma mater, she alleges that he drugged and sexually assaulted her at his home in 2004.

"She's a very spiritual woman, she believes things happen for a objective, and I think the goal should encourage other women to come forward and have their day in court".

She found it "heartbreaking" that the jury was hung after five days of deliberations, but praised prosecutor Steele's "determination to get this into trial".

Under questioning from her lawyer, Cosby acknowledged that he had obtained several prescriptions for quaaludes in the 1970s for the objective of offering the powerful sedative to women he wanted to have sex with. More than 50 women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them, but the trial has focused on Constand's and another anonymous complainant's testimonies.

The revelations led newly elected Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele to seek charges. The judge has refused, saying jurors are permitted under the law to deliberate as long as they want. The jurors have been trying to break a deadlock.

As Cosby exited the courthouse building, he was greeted by a handful of supporters on the street who chanted, "We love Bill!" - but reporters vastly outnumbered the fans who continued to voice their support even as the number of women accusing the star of misconduct has risen to more than 60.

But lawyers for the man once known as America's Dad say they've had enough. But the judge sent them back to try to reach a unanimous verdict.
