BJP Parliamentary Board to meet today to finalise president nominee

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Naidu had earlier met Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders D Raja and Sudhakar Reddy at the latter's party office over presidential elections.

Though Shah did not disclose the names of any candidate for the post of President, he sought Thackeray's support for the NDA nominee which might be announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi later on Tuesday. The last date of withdrawal of candidature will be July 1.

Meanwhile, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev also said that consensus on the nomination for the upcoming Presidential polls is needed by the political parties considering the dignity of the post.

Opposition has indicated that there could be a consensus with government only on a secular candidate.

The tenure of incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee ends on July 24.

Most opposition parties - including the Congress, the Left Front and the Trinamool Congress - are waiting for the BJP to name its candidate.

Opposition parties will hold a similar meeting on June 22. According to PTI, it is not certain if the BJP would announce the name of its nominee today. The party's parliamentary board will take stock of the talks this committee had with opposition leaders.

BJP chief Amit Shah met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai on Sunday, and Thackeray said his party will take a call only after the name of the candidate is decided.
