A member of the president's outside legal team said Sunday that Donald Trump is not under federal investigation, days after Trump appeared to confirm he was with a tweet about being the target of a "witch hunt".

On May 9, Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating possible collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russian officials.

President Donald Trump's announcement of a tougher line toward Cuba has delighted hardliners on the island, who say it reveals Washington's long-held aim of imposing its will on Cuba.

Trump advisers describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at television sets carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy.

"We stand by our story, which President Trump confirmed Friday in a tweet acknowledging he is under investigation for obstruction of justice", Post Executive Editor Martin Baron said Sunday.

Wallace asked Sekulow if Trump believes that Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, who wrote a memo criticizing Comey's handling of the Clinton email investigation, has done anything wrong.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, a Trump ally, said the tweet has not helped clear the air around the Russian Federation probe.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who argued earlier this week a president can not be guilty of obstruction of justice even though Gingrich voted in favor of an obstruction count against former President Bill Clinton and the fact that former President Richard Nixon resigned rather than face impeachment for obstruction, said on ABC's "This Week" that though he has "no problem with Bob Mueller as a person ..."

Mueller, the FBI director before Comey, has not released any details on the investigation.

"You just said it two times he's being investigated", Wallace responded. Sekulow said Trump "thought it was in the best interest of the American people" to fire Comey. "Let me be crystal clear so you completely understand".

He said, however, that Sekulow's comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller's team officially confirms it, disregarding any media reports based on anonymous sourcing.

"It's inconceivable he's not under investigation in the obstruction investigation", the lawyer said.

"There's a limitation on Twitter ― as we all know", Sekulow said, appearing flustered.

Sekulow: "I can't imagine a scenario where the president would not be aware of it". But Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them.

"When he met with his attorney general, when he met with his deputy attorney general, and reviewed their recommendations of what they thought the appropriate course of action should be, both were convinced, with as I said, a long and very persuasive document, that James Comey should be removed", Sekulow said.

Wallace then asked if Trump believes the law allows for a president to be indicted. He said Trump had learned the effectiveness of social media as a communications tool during the campaign.
