United Nations urges Saudi Arabia to grant reporters access to Yemen

At least seven women and four children were among those killed, they said.

Yemen has been suffering a civil war for about two and a half years, since Houthi rebels supported by forces of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh ousted the UN-backed transitional government led by fleeing President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi and occupied the capital Sanaa in September 2014.

Judges found that the Saudi-led coalition was "not deliberately targeting civilians" and alleged massacres were under investigation, concluding that it had not been established that there was "a clear risk that the items might be used in the commission of a serious violation of global humanitarian law".

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told the Guardian that those figures were "vastly exaggerated".

"The coalition suspended the United Nations flight leaving Djibouti for Sanaa on Tuesday as there were three BBC journalists on board", Saleh Humeidi, an official with Yemen's information ministry, told AFP.

The three BBC reporters were on the flight to cover the United Nations humanitarian operation, but Saudi Arabia warned the plane against taking off from Djibouti with any journalists on board.

Yemen's defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for more than two years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

"We confirm that the coalition cancelled yesterday the Djibouti-Sanaa UN flight because of a BBC team on the manifest, asking for the flight to be rescheduled without the journalists", said Ahmed Ben Lassoued, Yemen spokesman for the UN's humanitarian coordination office, UNOCHA.
