A Northwestern University professor and a University of Oxford staffer accused of stabbing a man to death in Chicago surrendered peacefully to authorities in California, eight days after the brutal attack.

Professor Wyndham Lathem surrendered at a federal courthouse in Oakland at about 7:30 p.m Pacific Time and the University of Oxford employee Andrew Warren turned himself in to the San Francisco Police Department at around 6:30 p.m.

Somerville College senior treasury assistant Andrew Warren, 56, and Professor Wyndham Lathem, 42, were taken into custody after handing themselves in last night. Authorities also have been alerted in England, where Warren was a resident at Somerville College, a part of the Oxford University Network.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank Conroy said Saturday that fast-paced surrender negotiations through an attorney began late Friday afternoon and that by evening, Wyndham Lathem arrived by auto at the courthouse.

The two men are suspected in the July 27 murder of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26.

Both are expected to be arraigned on first-degree murder charges and extradited to Illinois, CBS News reported. "We are also thankful that this did not end in further tragedy".
