Manchester United have made a €40m offer for Barcelona's Sergi Roberto, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Mundo Deportivo report suggests that Barca are unwilling to sell Roberto and have knocked back United's opening offer but the Express claim the defender has a £36m buyout clause which has now seemingly been met. "Chelsea and Monaco are weighing up offers", reports Sky Sports.

The midfielder in question being Sergi Roberto.

Roberto made 40 appearances for the Blaugrana last season but despite being primarily a deep-lying midfielder, he was deployed as right-back last season after the club did not replace Dani Alves.

Roberto started 39 games in all competitions last season, netting one goal and chipping in with six assists.

Neymar 222 million Euro Deal 'Not Expensive', Says Jose Mourinho

Sterling gloom as Bank of England downgrades growth forecast
On Thursday, the Bank said it saw GDP growth of 1.7 per cent this year, down from the 1.9 per cent it projected in May. The Bank also increased the total amount of cash it is planning to print to support the economy from £545bn to £560bn.

The 25-year-old's future at the Camp Nou is thought to be unclear after Ernesto Valverde's arrival in the managerial hotseat.

Chelsea, too, were looking at the player as a potential solution to the dearth of options at right wing-back.

The player's entourage have insisted that Roberto wants to continue at Barcelona, but have also indicated that anything could happen from now until the end of the summer window.

It will be interesting to see what the young Spaniard decides as Barcelona has already deemed a player "not for sale", but saw him leave just weeks later.

United are not the only English club who are interested in Roberto as it has been claimed that Premier League champions Chelsea are keeping tabs on him.
