Salmon, tilapia prices lower as part of Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods

In a August 24 press release, Amazon and Whole Foods said they would bring "more in-store benefits and lower prices for customers over time as the two companies integrate logistics and point-of-sale and merchandising systems".

Lower prices are the first of many changes Amazon is planning to make after completing its $13.7 billion acquisition of the upscale grocery chain Monday.

Amazon.com (AMZN) is giving its Prime members yet another reason to keep paying $99 per year: a customer reward program at Whole Foods Market.

As part of the acquisition, Whole Foods brands will also be making their way onto Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Prime Pantry and Prime Now.

Organic fuji apples and bananas were among the most heavily discounted foods.

Whole Foods operates only 13 stores in Canada, concentrated in Vancouver and Toronto.

The legal precedents created by those cases give the FTC a basis for unwinding the Amazon Whole Foods deal but have been ignored for decades by federal antitrust enforcers.

Amazon has not indicated whether it will break out Whole Foods operations in its financial statements or fold them into its current retail operations.

Whole Foods has rolled out a loyalty program at its smaller, lower-priced 365 by Whole Foods chain, which offers members 10% off more than 100 items in the stores.
