Aston Martin's first regular production hybrid and electric cars will be variants of the DBX SUV entering production in 2019.

To launch in late 2019, the vehicle, known as the DBX, will initially be powered by V8 and V12 petrol engines, but Palmer has confirmed a hybrid model is also in the works.

"We will be 100 percent hybrid by the middle of the 2020s", Palmer stated to Financial Times. Palmer likened EVs to Aston Martin's V12, calling them a "core technology" that needs to be kept inside the company.

The company plans to buy in electric cells from overseas, but has ambitions to make the packs and motors itself in the UK. Aston Martin is already working on an EV, with a fully electric version of the Rapide sedan called the RapidE set to hit the streets in 2019. More information about the concept is expected to come to light in the coming months.
