The U.S. military shot an incoming missile out of the sky in a successful intercept test Wednesday.

The target was a medium-range ballistic missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii.

During the test, the system detected, tracked, engaged and launched both missiles to intercept a Medium Range Ballistic Missile target, the company announced Wednesday.

"We will continue developing ballistic missile defense technologies to stay ahead of the threat as it evolves", Greaves said.

The test was conducted off the coast of Hawaii from the USS John Paul Jones, using Standard Missile-6 guided missiles, according to the statement. The test was considered a direct challenge to President Trump, who has threatened the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, that America would respond with "fire and fury" to provocations.

The latest in a series of missile tests came as South Korea and the US conducted war games in the region. The military has conducted three tests in total, but during a test in June, the interceptor failed as a result of human error. Washington and its allies called an emergency U.N.
