Suu Kyi and Myanmar face chorus of anger over Rohingya crisis

Bangladesh, already home to an estimated 400,000 Rohingya before the latest influx, has also come in for worldwide criticism for pushing people back to Myanmar. The authorities reported at least 400 people were killed in the ensuing clashes. Aid workers say the available high-energy biscuits won't cover the new arrivals.

Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi and her government have argued that the Rohingya are migrants from Bangladesh who do not deserve citizenship rights, although most have roots in the area that go back generations.

Human rights activists on the Myanmar-Bangladesh border have described horrific conditions as refugees flee in fear of their lives. The refugees say that many young Rohingya men have stayed behind to fight. More recently, she has described the military's attacks on the Rohingya as essential and legitimate counter-terrorism efforts, and even accused global NGOs of abetting terrorism through their efforts to help the Rohingya.

Asif added that Pakistan has always supported oppressed Muslim populations, including those in Indian-occupied Kashmir and the Rohingya Muslims.
