Rising star Kylian Mbappe tried to explain his big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco on Monday after receiving fierce criticism from hardcore Monaco fans.

Mbappe, who scored his first goal for France against the Netherlands last week, said his move to PSG was also driven by the fact that the club was extremely ambitious.

"So it was a real discovery for me".

"It was important for me not to leave France after just six months at the highest level".

"Back in May, I was in the frame of mind that I would stay with Monaco".

He said: "I came to PSG for the project but having Neymar here is an additional advantage".

Aged 11, Kylian Mbappe spent time at Chelsea, training with the club.

"It was a wonderful experience", he said.

Mbappe, pursued by a number of Europe's elite sides after impressing in 2016/17 to help Monaco win the French title and reach the Champions League semi-finals, detailed his objectives and revealed he had meant to stay another season at Monaco.
