"Our league strongly condemns the insulting comments regarding PSG made today by the president of La Liga, Mr Javier Tebas", read the statement.

Tebas has claimed City have been using Spanish side Girona - the club City's owners bought a 44.3% stake of in August - to blatantly negate financial rules as he suggested the Manchester club had loaned Girona their players below the market rate. City loaned five players to Girona: Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno, Aleix García, Pablo Maffeo, and Olarenwaju Kayode. What we have done is caught them peeing in the bed, or the swimming pool.

"They have not said they will never have one", Tebas said.

Last week, Uefa opened a formal investigation into whether PSG had breached Financial Fair Play regulations (FFP) by triggering Neymar's €222m release clause.

"Manchester City and the City Football group are evaluating the option to take legal actions.".

The City Football Group (CFG) added: "As you would expect, Manchester City Football Club and the City Football Group are seeking appropriate legal counsel and will act accordingly on that advice".

Qatari-owned PSG have spent 380 million euros ($450.66m) to secure the services of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, while Man City, owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group, have splashed more than £200 million (218m euros) on full-backs Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo, goalkeeper Ederson and attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva.
