Prabhu, whose tenure as Railway Minister has seen several train accidents, was present at the event.

The minister, who is also in charge of the coal ministry, will have to work towards implementing the soon to be launched Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed train.

He was sworn-in as the Cabinet Minister for Railways on November 9, 2014 under the Narendra Modi government.

Power Minister Piyush Goyal, also promoted from Minister of State with an independent charge to the Cabinet, got the railways portfolio, from which Suresh Prabhu was shifted to Commerce and Industry that was with Sitharaman.

He pointed out that Prabhu then headed a task force for interlinking rivers of which Goyal was a member.

"I am confident that he would contribute to the development of the nation", he said.

After receiving flak from all the sides for the successive rail derailments, Prabhu had offered to quit on August 23, taking moral responsibility for two train derailments in the span of four days.
