VW gives the ID Crozz concept a once-over for Frankfurt show

By 2025, Volkswagen plans to offer 23 all-electric models. This is not some vague declaration of intent. "And we will lead that transformation".

The Germany automaker previously had said it would spend over €10 billion before 2025 in electric vehicles.

Volkswagen (VW) said it was seeking new global supplier contracts to source 50 billion euros of electric auto content including batteries, which are not yet manufactured competitively in Europe.

"The interior has also been re-equipped and further developed - as an Open Space - with a superior amount of space and highly versatile seating concept".

A few days ago, Volkswagen hinted that a more polished, more production-ready version of the electric I.D. Crozz concept would be shown at Frankfurt, and indeed it has.

Rather than selling assets, Porsche said VW should focus on implementing a turnaround plan for its troubled core autos division which is pushing an increased embrace of electric cars. The Volkswagen brand is also setting up its first pilot line there to accumulate production know-how. To achieve this, it's looking for partners in Europe, the USA, and China, putting out to tender a string of contracts worth $60 billion.

Volkswagen projects that one in four of their vehicles will be electric by 2025.

That will meet the Group's needs for the first wave of e-mobility. Looking ahead, there's a longer-term strategy which aims to see Volkswagen building cars with solid-state batteries.

However, Müller told the company event yesterday that there was a critical need for more EV charging infrastructure in cities and on highways to help EVs breakthrough in the market, adding that the low emission transport and energy transitions are also "inextricably linked".

The head of VW said that at this stage the company can not completely abandon the internal combustion engines since the infrastructure for electric vehicles is not ready yet.

An "electrified vehicle" could mean a hybrid electric car, a plug-in hybrid electric car, or a battery electric car.

Independent studies show that the Volkswagen Group's present generation of internal combustion engines ranks among the cleanest and most efficient in the industry. Significant improvements in consumption and emissions are promised.
