Last second Hail Mary lifts No. 24 Florida past No. 23 Tennessee

Tennessee coaches, players and fans surely won't forget having the ball first-and-goal at the 1 and almost throwing an interception on first down and then getting flagged for a false start on second.

As if the Hail Mary touchdown that beat the No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers was not painful enough, there was some savagery from a couple Florida Gators sent out over Twitter after No. 24 Florida picked up its last-second victory on Saturday night.

"We've been through this situation a number of times throughout our four years here and we know what it's like to have this bump in the road", senior tight end Ethan Wolf said of the loss. Quarterback Jesse Ertz of the Wildcats (2-1) was tackled short on fourth-and-8 deep in Vanderbilt territory with 1:06 left.

63-yard Hail Mary from Feleipe Franks to Tyrie Cleveland on the game's final play. The Gators wide receiver not only has had to worry about the devastation Hurricane Irma dumped on the Sunshine State this past week; before that, and quite possibly far worse than that, he had the horror of Hurricane Harvey on his hometown and state. Kelly celebrated the score with a defiant Gator chomp in the end zone, which rewarded by the officials with an excessive celebration flag. Maybe it had something to do with the bigger picture of delivering a bit of joy to a region of the country that so needs something to feel joyous about.

Nothing needed to be said that wasn't already written on the face of Tennessee coach Butch Jones.

Florida running back Malik Davis looked like he was en route to a 74-yard scoring run.

UF got the ball back with those 50 seconds left when Medley's kickoff sailed into the end zone and given the sputtering offense for most of the game, hardly anyone expected coach Jim McElwain to do anything but have Franks run out the time and take his chances in overtime.

In this one, it was a 6-3 slugfest - typical of the ACC - through three quarters before opening up in the fourth frame and wrapping up on the final play that touched off the full-on Florida party.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Luke Falk threw six touchdown passes - three to Tavares Martin Jr. - and the Cougars (3-0, 1-0 Pac-12) topped the Beavers (1-3, 0-1).

The Vols quickly took advantage, as John Kelly led Tennessee down the field and ran it in from 34 yards out.

Here's a not-so-friendly reminder of how old you're getting.

Corey Newble threw two touchdowns for Murray State (1-2).

"It's one of those plays that come around once every so often, but unfortunately they made the play and we didn't". Yet he was also right with this observation: "The key factor, in my opinion, in this game was situational football". The Vols had first-and-goal from the 1-yard line after a 22-yard catch by Callaway on third-and-19, then the ineptitude began.

The Tennessee Volunteers will play the Florida Gators in one of the college football games on Saturday, start time at 3:30 PM ET, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL.

The game for three quarters was nearly unbearable to watch as the Gators held a 6-3 advantage after 45 minutes. Florida almost botching the time management on its final drive despite having two timeouts and 50 seconds to work with. "I was kind of surprised there we didn't get a measure". That has to be about a 63-yard throw.
