When Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3 just over a week ago, there was much excitement at the fact that the smartwatch now features LTE connectivity. In a statement, Apple acknowledged the problem stems from the Watch attaching to "unauthenticated Wi-Fi wireless networks without connectivity". "That's why I can't recommend the cellular Apple Watch Series 3 until the connectivity is more reliable".

Apple admits its new Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular LTE connectivity, due out this Friday, September 22, has a serious problem.

The issue described in The Verge's review would seem to be avoidable if Apple Watch users could turn off Wi-Fi as one could on an iPhone, but the device doesn't have that option. In addition, it's launching an Apple Heart Study later this year with Stanford Medicine to identify irregular heart rhythms. Users have reported problems sending messages from Miscosoft Outlook or Exchange accounts linked to iOS 11's Mail app. Users have been receiving "Cannot Send Mail" errors, and Apple has confirmed to 9to5Mac that it is "working closely with Microsoft" to fix the problem.

It became apparent after my first full day using the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE that something wasn't right.

CNET's Scott Stein dinged the newest model for battery life and monthly fees for a cellular connection. The new Watch appeared to try to connect to unknown WiFi networks instead of connecting to cellular, when I was out and about without my phone. The company is investigating the issue and will likely come out with a fix in a future software update. "People won't know you're calling them from your watch if you don't tell them". "The new cellular feature is great for leaving your phone behind during workouts (then taking an Uber back or stopping at Whole Foods for a refueling snack)".
