Actor Anupam Kher is appointed the new chief of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) after actor Gajendra Chauhan's term ended.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher was appointed as the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) chairman on Wednesday afternoon.

It was surprising to see that despite the protests, the BJP government didn't sack Chauhan till March 2017.

Mr Kher wrote on Twitter that he felt "deeply humbled and honoured" to head the iconic institute.

Chauhan, however, said FTII needs a good administrator, more than a good actor.

Anupam had then said that the FTII needed a person with much more qualifications than Chauhan had as a producer, director or actor. The appointment is a homecoming of sorts for Anupam Kher who himself is an alumnus of National School of Drama (NSD). He is quite experienced and runs his own (acting) institute (Actor Prepares) in Mumbai.
