The Indian state-owned telecom giant BSNL has unearthed a lucrative unlimited calling and data plan against only RS. 97/month for the buyers of the Bharat phone manufactured by Micromax. "This will connect the unconnected masses in rural area at very affordable rate", BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said, while announcing the agreement with Micromax. The phone competes with Reliance Jio's JioPhone and BSNL will bundle unlimited data and voice calling for Rs 97. Micromax says the effective cost of ownership will be Rs 3,364 after one year, as compared to Rs 3,336 for Reliance Jio's 4G feature phone. The advanced 4G phone has a 2.4-inch display and is powered by a Snapdragon processor. On the photography front, it features a 2-megapixel rear facing camera and a VGA selfie snapper. Since the Bharat 1 is targeted at the feature phone market, BSNL is going aggressive with the data plan. And Micromax is also offering some digital content services such as Live TV, movies, and music. The dual-SIM phone is backed by a 2000mAh battery and supports 4G VoLTE connectivity. With the Bharat 1, both BSNL and Micromax are aiming to target India's 500 million plus population that is still aloof from the connected world.

The Micromax Bharat 1 has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment.

The Bharat 1 comes with an unlocked SIM, which essentially means users can run any network SIM on the device. Bharat-1 will be available in retail stores starting from this month's 20th.
