ZTE launches Axon M, a dual 5.2-inch screen smartphone

The Axon M is basically a foldable phone, with two screens and a hinge in between that unfortunately is there for better or for worse.

Spec-wise, the ZTE Axon M is a bit of an odd duck.

The ZTE Axon M is, at first glance, a regular-looking smartphone with a 5.2-inch 1080p display.

Mirror Mode: Display the same content at the same time on both screens and simply fold the device and place it for easy viewing from two separate sides of the device. The screen works differently in each of its pre-set modes, which can be selected as per user's needs. From here on, one can use the larger screen real estate to get tablet-like experience with their apps. Android apps that do not have a tablet version are typically limited to use on one display and can not be stretched across the entire 6.75-inch combined screen.

We must tell you that the Axon M is not the first dual-screen phone in the industry, the first phone with this design was the Kyocera Echo.

The device ships with Android 7.1 Nougat, and Android's split-screen capabilities let it do some interesting things with the two screens.

Struggling smartphone maker ZTE Corp.is hoping its newest offering will bring it "double happiness" by serving up an unusual dual-screen design. (Is anyone else exhausted of the thickness obsession?) The display is a pair of 5.2-inch, 1920×1080 panels, which combine together to make a 1920×2160 panel when you use the device in its joined mode. The two full-sized displays fold into one.

ZTE has optimized common apps for Extend Mode, including Google Docs, Photos, Chrome, Maps, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and Pandora.

Under the hood, the smartphone is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor that is clubbed with 4GB of RAM. It may be a foldable phone. The Axon M is also equipped with the dual speakers. Regarding pricing, U.S. residents can get the device at $24.17 for 30 months on AT&T Next. The hinge only goes 180 degrees, so you can't "close" the smartphone such that both screens are protected.

The newly launched device will also be released in China, Japan and in Europe.

It's tough for me to work on a computer without having two displays and soon ZTE will offer a similar experience on your phone.

You'll also find specs like Gorilla Glass 5 on each display, a 20-megapixel camera, and a 3,180mAh battery, which ZTE said is created to provide a full day's use between charges.
