Four of the most accomplished women in STEM are about to be celebrated with the highest pop culture accolade in America: a Lego set in their honor.

Meet Women of NASA: a brand new LEGO line inspired by designer Maia Weinstock's proposal on LEGO Ideas, a crowdsourcing LEGO platform which gives everyday people like you and me the chance to share their LEGO creations and pitch potential future lines and designs.

"I wanted to spotlight a fantastic group of women who have made seminal contributions to NASA history", said Weinstock, deputy editor of "MIT News" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The final kit includes all but Katherine Johnson, which Lego says is only because it requires approval from all involved, and apparently there was some hiccup in gaining approval from Johnson and her family at this time.

Wike added: "It was a great experience to give these incredible women their new Lego identity and a great honour to personally present Margaret Hamilton with her very own mini-figure". It also comes with miniature vignettes depicting moments in NASA history that these unbelievable women made possible.

Three LEGO® builds illustrating the areas of expertise of the four featured women of NASA. Roman's includes a posable Hubble Space Telescope and Hamilton's includes a stack of books representing the software code for the Apollo Guidance Computer. The last features Mae Jemison, who was the first African-American woman in space and Sally Ride who was the very first woman in space.

Also included in the set is a 4-inch-tall model of the Challenger space shuttle Ride rode when she became the first woman in space.

Astronomer Nancy Grace Roman was a key figure in the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope.
