A total of eight people were slighted injured on Saturday morning in Munich by a knife-armed man, who was later arrested by police.

The eight wounded were aged between 12 and 77-years-old.

The victims largely suffered from superficial stab wounds and in at least one case had been hit.

"We still do not know whether he is the perpetrator", police spokesman Markus da Gloria Martins told local media.

Munich police identified the suspect, who was arrested after the incident, as a 33-year-old German citizen who was known to authorities because of past criminal acts.

There was no immediate word on a possible motive.
