Donna Brazile: Hillary Clinton 'Rigged The Nomination Process'

Hillary Clinton took control of the National Democratic Party and its money in August 2015, long before she secured the presidential nomination, said former party interim chair Donna Brazile, and used that power to deny Bernie Sanders any chance of defeating her in the primary.

In an excerpt from her book that was provided to Politico, Brazile explains how she was tasked with investigating the DNC after hacked emails suggested the Clinton campaign fixed the nomination.

"By September 7, the day I called Bernie, I had found my proof and it broke my heart".

Brazile uncovered a joint-fundraising agreement between the party and the campaign funds, which stipulated that Hillary would control the "party's finances, strategy, and all the money raised" in exchange for raising money and investing in the DNC.

'Obama left the party $24 million in debt-$15 million in bank debt and more than $8 million owed to vendors after the 2012 campaign and had been paying that off very slowly.

Brazile wrote: "The campaign had the DNC on life support, giving it money every month to meet its basic expenses".

"The funding arrangement. was not illegal, but it sure looked unethical", Brazile wrote. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, (D-Florida), who Brazile said was "not a good manager".

In Clinton's book "What Happened", she blamed Sanders for inflicting "lasting damage" to her campaign during the Democratic primary season, opening the door for Trump for using the "Crooked Hillary" slogan in his campaign, CNN reported.

She "couldn't write a news release without passing it by Brooklyn". She has been a Democratic Party insider since the 1984 Mondale campaign and had also served as a political analyst for CNN.

Brazile claims that the DNC is having a hard time raising money, while other parts of the party are gaining intense strength due to the anti-Trump movement.

"Either he's going to succeed by bringing Bernie Sanders and Bernie Sanders' representatives into this process and they're gonna say it's fair, it works, we all believe it, or he's gonna fail". Brazile says Wasserman Schultz arranged a $2 million loan from the Clinton campaign without the consent of party officers like herself, contrary to party rules. But the agreement was apparently signed in August 2015, nearly a year before Clinton clinched the nomination. Brazile shares how she informed Bernie of what she knew, and he "took this stoically".

She said that when chair Tom Perez first was elected as chair she met with him and encouraged him to put the party back together so that they can begin working to help Democrats, "rather than Democrats working for the party". "We'll give you some money, but we're going to put you on an allowance, and we're going to control the state, local and national fundraising apparatus, '" Watters said.
