After news of the sentencing was released, many celebrities, including JAY-Z, voiced their support for Mill while criticizing the legal system.

Meek was handed his lengthy prison sentence after violating the terms of his probation on a 2009 drugs and weapons case.

After a judge sentenced rapper Meek Mill to prison for a probation, a petition asking Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf to "save Meek Mill" began circulating online Tuesday. You gave me the ladder to do what I have to do to prevail in my struggle. "We fully intend to right this bad wrong and bring him home", McMonagle said.

Meek's mugshot was reportedly taken at the state prison in Graterford, Montgomery County, PA.

Meek's attorney Joe Tacopina told Billboard that Judge Genece Brinkley has an "infatuation" with the rapper, and once requested he cover a Boyz II Men song and include a shout-out to her. "It's an infatuation, it's some sort of obsession". He's served time in jail and on house arrest for violating probation and parole since then.

DeSimone, according to a court document, told Brinkley that Mill wanted to discuss his experiences performing community service but "would feel more comfortable relaying some of his thoughts and experiences" to the judge in private.

Mill was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he became a key figure in the local hip-hop scene before gaining national recognition.

"I'm human. I'm not ideal", Mill said to Brinkley in court on Monday, according to a report from Philly.com.

But Brinkley says she's been trying to help Mill for about a decade and that he just does whatever he wants.

Brinkley cited a failed drug test, as well as a failure to comply with a court order restricting the rapper's travel and two unrelated arrests earlier this year - for an airport fight and reckless driving charge - as reasons for her sentencing, which was handed down despite a prosecutor's recommendation that Mill not be imprisoned for the violations. At the time, he threw himself on the mercy of the court, telling Brinkley, "I'm human, I'm not ideal".
