Yesterday, Twitter chose to give their users more room to manoeuvre after a successful pilot programme that doubled the original 140 character limit. As of yesterday, everyone has it.

Either way, the doubling of Twitter's character limit led to quite a number of smart, funny, and even heartwarming tweets, and made the hashtag #280characters trend worldwide. Most notable about this Twitter change truly is, by the time you get to the end of what it would have been the previous tweet, and you realize, 'Oh I shouldn't have read that, ' you're only halfway through.

The Yankees aren't unsure about how to use the extra space.

The successive changes on tweet character limit and now display name indicates the company is looking to increase user engagement in new ways.

Last night, the social media giant announced that it would be extended the 280-character privilege to all users using the English alphabet, and many accounts immediately put their newfound powers to good use.
