Two men stabbed at the Mall of America

A stabbing at one of the nation's largest malls has left two people injured and shoppers who were waiting to see Santa Claus shocked following what police call an "interrupted theft".

Police have named the man accused of stabbing two people inside the Mall of America during a botched theft attempt Sunday.

Authorities say at least one person has been stabbed.

Family members were able to detain the Abdirahaman until police arrived and took him into custody.

Abdirahaman, who is now being held on two counts of probable cause first-degree assault, was pictured in his mugshot bruised and bloodied.

Police say the suspect is now in custody.

Reports on Twitter said the stabbing happened in the men's department at Macy's on the first level.

The two stabbing victims were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Both individuals were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment. And Deputy Chief Mike Hartley said no other patrons at the Mall of America were in danger.

While the Macy's store closed early, the Mall of America stayed open and was not placed on lockdown.
