These would be lapped up by four ultra low-priced airlines including Wizz Air from Hungary, US-based Frontier Airlines, Volaris from Mexico, and a three-and-a-half month old Chilean airline JetSMART. He said: "It's gratifying that [this order] comes from a group of airline professionals who know our products as well as the folks at Indigo Partners do".

"This significant commitment for 430 additional aircraft underscores our optimistic view of the growth potential of our family of low-priced airlines, as well as our confidence in the A320neo Family as a platform for that growth", said Indigo Partners Managing Partner Bill Franke.

But Boeing, too, managed to grab another sizable order on Wednesday with flydubai committing to 225 aircraft for its 737 MAX type in a deal worth $27 billion.

Airbus said the deal would be finalised before the end of this year.

The order should see the aircraft delivered in 2018 and 2019. "I can see a place in transcontinental U.S. and Asia", he said, adding it would suit markets with congested airports but relatively low freight traffic, where airlines may not be willing to bet on a traditional twin-aisle jet sitting more than 250 people.

As we can clearly see, most of the big-ticket orders were from budget airlines, also known as low-priced carriers, that seek volume and operate with tiny margins.

But even with that factored this, Dubai's airshow has become a highlight of this year's race for sales supremacy between the two companies.

Boeing has followed its opening-day announcement of a 40-aircraft commitment from Emirates for the 787-10 with three other orders.

Flydubai's first 737 MAX 8 takes off from Boeing's Seattle delivery center in July. "There is enough demand for us and competitors", he said. "We are honoured that flydubai has selected to be an all-Boeing operator for many years to come. This caps a terrific week for all of us at Boeing".

The UAE Ministry of Defence also announced a 250 million dollars purchase deal for five Airbus CN295 tactical airlifter aircraft.

The Boeing 787 will give Emirates a level of flexibility and economy that its larger Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A380 fleet could not approach.

Boeing and AerCap, a Dublin-based aviation leasing company, also announced today that EgyptAir would lease six 787-9 Dreamliners.

Michele van Akelijen, Managing Director of organisers, Tarsus F&E LLC Middle East, said: "Today's most memorable deals underline that Dubai Airshow is the place where the global industry comes to do business".
