"Didn't this start long before even Bill Clinton?".

"Yes, I think that is the appropriate response", Gillibrand said when asked by The New York Times whether Clinton should have resigned as president when his sexual encounters with White House intern Monica Lewinsky were revealed nearly two decades ago.

Brzezinski, who has penned a series of books encouraging women to take charge of their own destinies in the workplace, said it's highly hard to have an "honest" conversation about sexual harassment.

Brzezinski's statement came during a broad discussion about sexual harassment and assault, touching on the accusations facing film producer Harvey Weinstein, Sen. Clinton was 27 years older than her. Gillibrand turned her back on Bill Clinton over his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Republican strategist Susan Del Percio pointed out Democratic Sen. Gillibrand was asked directly by a reporter for the New York Times about whether he should have stepped down, and she responded by saying, "Yes, I think that is the appropriate response". "It's been accepted as a norm", Brzezinski said.

Del Percio said women were now being believed when they came forward with stories of abuse or harassment, as opposed to being reflexively doubted or questioned.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski, known for her progressive views, called former President Bill Clinton a "predator" Friday morning.

"This was a painful time, not only in our marriage, but in our country, which I've written about", Clinton said.

"There are cases where the predator flourished and continued to be the president of the United States", Brzezinski said on the show, according to Independent Journal Review. "And forever stamped with a scarlet letter". They join an avalanche of other liberals who have turned on the Clintons now that the Clintons can no longer help the Democratic Party.

The issue of sexual harassment in politics has gripped Washington in recent weeks, particularly with Moore and Franken's scandals.

She was an early supporter of Mrs. Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign and has spent countless hours raising money for Democratic women who run for office, citing Mrs. Clinton as a role model.

Gillibrand's name has been floated in political circles as a potential candidate to unseat President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential elections. Al Franken groped and "forcibly kissed" a woman without her consent during an overseas USO tour in 2006, two years before Franken was elected to the Senate.
