The reason why the wind will be so strong is we have a warm front followed by a powerful cold front that will quickly sweep across the region.

The aforementioned cold front will clear the area by first thing Sunday morning allowing the rain to stop and clouds to break. Today, we'll be tracking that storm threat. A longer line of showers and storms is racing through the central Plains this morning.

In addition to the severe threat, we also have a concern for strong, potentially damaging winds that will not be associated with thunderstorms.

Weekend Storm to Bring Strong Winds & Heavy Rain

Lawrence County under a hazardous weather outlook this weekend. Wind gusts as high as 26 miles per hour. The timing of the front looks to be during the second-half of the day to near sunset. Winds could gust as high as 20-40 miles per hour (This could prompt a Wind Advisory to be issued for the majority of the day on Saturday). Winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour. Be prepared, especially if you will be out and away from home this evening. Strongest winds will be along the shoreline. A wind advisory is in effect for much of central in for today because of this possibility. We will see the wind change from the south to the northwest. Traveling will be hard for higher profile vehicles. Use extra caution. A Freeze Watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. Winds will calm as well going into Sunday evening. "Mountain snow showers will likely put down a fresh 1-3" of new snow across the northern mountains of NY and Vermont. Temperatures will drop from the 30s and 40s into the 10s and 20s.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy skies and cold temperatures continue, with a low of 25 degrees.
