In the latest escalation of the almost year-long legal battle, Qualcomm filed three complaints Wednesday in U.S. District Court alleging violations on 16 different Qualcomm patents by Apple, some related to RF transceivers and power-saving measures, some related to multi-touch displays and some related to the innovations of Palm.

These lawsuits allege that Apple is infringing 16 Qualcomm patents with the iPhone 7, 8, and X that run on AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., as well as the bigger-screened Plus models. In the latest turn of events, Qualcomm has filed a fresh lawsuit seeking a ban on the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and last year's iPhone 7 series.

Qualcomm has filed a new lawsuit in the US District Court inn the Southern District of California. the company is alleging that Apple has infringed on five Qualcomm patents. As per the claims, the company is violating eight or more patents related to power management. If Qualcomm were to win, a victory might cause the company to take further action against Apple with other agencies around the world - which we have already seen a similar call for iPhone X bans in China. Qualcomm also claims that Apple is using patented technology in the iPhone's Portrait Mode photo effect.

Apple hasn't commented on Qualcomm's latest move but said in its filing on Wednesday: "Apple's iPhone is the reason consumers fell in love with smartphones and this continues to push Apple to create and innovate with new products and technologies, such as iPhone X Face ID".

Why are Apple's chips faster than Qualcomm's?

Apple has accused supplier Qualcomm of behaving like a "common patent troll", as the iPhone maker responds to the mobile chip designer with another round of litigation. In the complaint, Qualcomm specifically alleges that Apple copied the operating system's "cards" design interface.

"Apple began seeking those patents years before Qualcomm began seeking the patents it asserts against Apple in this case", Apple wrote in its filing.

The research firm estimates that Apple has sold more than 15 million iPhone X devices since the November 3 launch. Almost a year ago, Apple filed a $1 billion suit against Qualcomm and proceeded to cut off royalty payments while encouraging its suppliers to do the same.
