Giancarlo Stanton Could Soon Be Traded To The Giants Or The Cardinals

Stanton has 10 years and $295 million left on his contract, which includes an opt-out following the 2020 season. Stanton can control where he goes since he has a full no-trade clause, and as such, he is waiting to see how much interest the Los Angeles Dodgers have, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi. That was when San Francisco reportedly became Stanton's "100 percent" preferred choice if it came down to choosing between the Giants and the Cardinals. He is rumored to prefer a deal to his hometown Dodgers, although Los Angeles is also under payroll constraints and may not match up in a potential trade. The Dodgers are enamored with Stanton's power, but are concerned about the luxury-tax implications of trading for him.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported Stanton met personally with Giants executives on Friday.

At the very least the ball is in Stanton's court, it seems.

The Miami Marlins star outfielder has been a one-man hot stove this offseason, with multiple teams hoping to trade for Major League Baseball's premier slugger.

The Giants have many holes to fill including the outfield, third base and the bullpen as they try to bounce back from an embarrassing 98-loss season.

As of Sunday, the Dodgers and Marlins were still in contact regarding Stanton, but have not made progress toward a deal, according to one source.

Stanton, 28, has no desire to be part of a rebuilding process, which the Marlins will be entering under new ownership, featuring point man Derek Jeter.
