According to the latest weather forecast, Cyclone Ockhi moves closer to Gujarat and is likely to make landfall in the state on Tuesday night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was constantly monitoring the situation in various parts of the country.

The Western Railway (WR) today said it has taken necessary precautions and made suitable arrangements in view of the warning about cyclone Ockhi in coastal areas of Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Disaster Management unit of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an advisory against visiting the beaches today and tomorrow, as the cyclone is expected to hit the coast of Maharashtra within the next 48 hours.

"Due to severe cyclonic storm "Ockhi" over the east-central Arabian sea near latitude 15.7°n and longitude 69.2°e, stormy weather very likely to prevail along and off your ports", it adds. Damage to ripe paddy crops and minor damage to "kutcha" embankments are expected.
