Google has but one burning desire: let them ban access to Fire

Google announced today that it has had it with Amazon and their selective selling and implementation of competing products.

Google has complained that Amazon's retail website does not sell competing products, including the Google Home smart speaker or its Chromecast streaming device. The application eventually made its way back to the Amazon Echo Show recently, as intended, but the shopping giant has already taken the interesting step of removing Google hardware from its sales. The power being thrown around by these two giants is the type of conduct that has some talking about the need to break them up by way of anti-trust action.

Amazon's Fire TV products run on the company's Fire OS, which is in turn a modification of Google's open-source Android platform. And yesterday afternoon, Google once again pulled YouTube from the Amazon Echo Show by blocking the device from showing the web version of the app. Since that hasn't happened and Amazon refuses to not only not sell Chromecast, Google Home, and some Nest products, they don't seem interested in adding Google Cast to Prime Video either, time is up. "We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon".

In a statement, a YouTube spokesperson said: "We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give customers access to each other's products and services".

Google's own Home smart speaker is a direct rival to Amazon's Echo line of products.

This news is disappointing and hurts Amazon and Google's customers.

"Google and Amazon have been sparring for several months but the move by Google to pull YouTube off Amazon ecosystem devices may bring this issue to a head". Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV.

"Internet companies, innovative startups, and millions of internet users depend on these common-sense protections that prevent blocking or throttling of internet traffic, segmenting the internet into paid fast lanes and slow lanes and other discriminatory practices", a blog post by the company reads.
