- If you live in the Northeast or Midwest, you're not dreaming: It's probably going to be a white Christmas.

Forecasters say a Christmas storm dumped a record amount of snow on the Pennsylvania city of Erie and surrounding areas. According to the National Weather Service, "additional snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches are expected through this evening, heaviest from portions of Lake County east through northern Ashtabula and Erie County PA". The previous record was 44ins that fell in Morgantown in March 1958.

And the snow isn't over.

By Tuesday morning, Erie International Airport had accumulated 53 inches of snow since Christmas Eve. They should be prepared for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, the weather service said.

Chicago and Minneapolis both had their coldest Christmas since 1996, while Duluth, Minnesota, had its chilliest December 25 since 1933.
