India and Pakistan are now locked in a legal wrangle at the International Court of Justice.

"It was a humanitarian meeting, it was not consular access".

Accompanied by deputy high commissioner J.P. Singh and a woman Pakistani official, TV footage showed Jadhav's family entering the main building of the ministry of foreign affairs, and the door shutting behind them.

"We promised 30 minutes of the meeting but Jadhav and his mother requested towards the end of meeting that it should be increased and we did it".

Avanti and Chetankul Jadhav leave after the meeting.

Jadhav, 47, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April, following which India moved the ICJ in May.

Siddharth Vidyarthi: The 56-inch #BJP govt. should be ashamed of itself after seeing what Pakistan has done to #Kulbhushan and his mother & wife by allowing a farcical meeting.

Jadhav, in the video that was apparently shot before he got to meet his kin, also said that he had requested to meet his family members and that he was grateful to the Pakistan Government for letting that happen.

Former Indian naval officer Khulbhushan Jadhav met his mother and his wife at the Pakistan foreign office in Islamabad on Monday. Dr Mohammad Faisal, spokesperson of Pakistan's MOFA, said that the meeting was allowed as a humanitarian gesture on the birthday of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. "There were more than 3 conditions by Indians to which we didn't agree", Mohammad Faisal, the foreign ministry spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also flashed a medical certificate, interestingly, signed by a German doctor based in Dubai, perhaps to make it look more credible. The foreign office spokesperson also said that the meeting was extended by 10 minutes on the request of Jadhav family.

"This meeting was not consular access as we had told India that its diplomat would see the meeting but was not allowed to speak or participate in it", Faisal told reporters. Pakistan was also been given time till December 13 to respond to the memorial submitted by India, the ICJ stated in a press-release issued on Friday. "He has been sentenced to death by Pakistan", he said.

Jadhav has filed an appeal with Pakistan's army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, to seek clemency, which is still pending. They are expected to stay at the Indian embassy for a few hours before returning to India in the evening. India, however, maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.
