Trump slams China over reported North Korea oil sales: 'Caught RED HANDED'

China has consistently said it is fully enforcing all resolutions against North Korea, despite suspicion in Washington, Seoul and Tokyo that loopholes still exist.

Trump said on Twitter Thursday that China had been "Caught RED HANDED", adding he was "very disappointed that China is allowing oil to go into North Korea".

The problem is that any oil embargo imposed on the North in the event of further provocations will probably be futile as long as illegal smuggling continues. Abe, who moved quickly after the election of Donald Trump to keep the mercurial US president close, said that "strengthening the Japan-US alliance is vital" to ensure regional stability.

The U.S. Treasury in November also sanctioned North Korea's Maritime Administration and its transport ministry, in addition to six North Korean shipping and trading companies and 20 of their vessels, in an effort to block the rogue regime's transportation networks.

South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo, citing government sources in Seoul, reported earlier this week that USA satellites had spotted Chinese ships selling oil to North Korean vessels dozens of times since October. One of them - Rye Song Gang 1, seen "connected to a Chinese vessel" - was included in the November 21 sanctions as a vessel of Korea Kumbyol Trading Company possibly transferring oil to evade sanctions.

The satellite images appear to identify the ships.

In September, the Security Council put a cap of 2 million barrels a year on refined petroleum products exports to North Korea.

US spy satellites have captured images of what appears to be Chinese ships illegally selling oil to North Korean boats.

"We urge China to end all economic ties with the DPRK, including tourism, and the provision of any oil or petroleum products, and expel all DPRK workers", he said, using the acronym for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

A ministry spokeswoman said Wednesday she had no information about the latest report, but said China has strictly enforced trade restrictions.

China and Russian Federation subsequently asked for more time to consider the proposal.
