Washington D.C. [United States], December 28: The United States and Turkey are going to resume full capacity visa proceedings for each other's citizens after a months-long diplomatic row.

"In response to assurances from the Turkish side, the US State Department came to the conclusion that the security situation in Turkey is quite good for the resumption of visa services, the embassy officials said".

"We don't find it proper that the USA claims it's received assurances from Turkey and is misinforming the public, despite the fact that we've drawn attention to the issue before", Turkey's Embassy in Washington said.

Turkey, though, denied any such assurances since two local employees of the USA consulate in Istanbul were held on suspicion of ties to last year's failed coup against President Tayyip Erdogan.

But the department also says it still has concerns about existing allegations against local employees and against USA citizens arrested under the state of emergency.

The lira was trading 1 percent higher at 3.7806 as of 5:08 Istanbul, trimming losses since the beginning of October to 5.7 percent, the third-worst performance among 24 emerging market currencies tracked by Bloomberg. Turkey also suspended the issuance of visas to U.S. citizens.

That followed the arrest of Metin Topuz - a us consulate employee who was arrested for alleged ties to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

The U.S. continues to engage with Turkish officials in order to resolve these issues.

Later on Thursday, the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC, which had also blocked some visa services for U.S. nationals, said it "welcome [d] the decision" by the United States and would end its own visa restrictions.

"By lifting restrictions on USA visa applications for our citizens, we welcome the decision to return to the old plan as of today".

Both countries restarted visa issuances in November, but only on a limited basis.

However, the Turkish Embassy in Washington rejected those assertions and said Ankara did not provide any assurance related to the ongoing judicial process in Turkey.
