The Cardinals entered this season as a playoff contender, thanks to the return of Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald and running back David Johnson, who was a revelation in 2016.

Palmer had two major knee injuries in his career, tearing the ACL in his left knee twice, once in 2006 and again in 2014.

His relationship with the Bengals ended poorly, with Palmer requesting to be traded after the 2010 season. Palmer played 14 seasons in the National Football League (7 with Cincinnati, 2 with Oakland, 5 with Arizona) where he played in 182 regular season games but made the playoffs just 3 times (4 games).

He spent eight seasons at the Bengals and, after a short stint with the Oakland Raiders, he moved to Arizona in 2013 to play his final five seasons with the Cardinals.
