Arsenal 'quote Manchester City £40m for Alexis Sanchez'

Manchester City are set to test Arsenal's resolve over keeping Alexis Sanchez by making a concerted effort to sign the forward this month.

And Man City are the favourites to land the 29-year-old.

Sanchez is out of contract at Arsenal this summer and is highly unlikely to agree a new deal, meaning he could leave for free at the end of the season.

Instead they are keen to secure a deal for Alexis rather than wait to sign him for free in the summer.

Goal report that the two clubs are in talks over a January move for the Chilean forward, with the Gunners asking for £35m to get a deal done before the end of the transfer window - a massive amount for a player with just a few months left on his current contract in north London. Paris Saint-Germain are said to retain an interest.

However, Standard Sport understands that stance has now changed due to a number of factors, not least a serious injury to Gabriel Jesus, who will be sidelined for around six weeks after sustaining knee ligament damage.

Vikings will play Panthers-Saints victor in divisional round
New Orleans dominated Carolina in two divisional games this season, taking down the Panthers by a combined score of 65-35. Commissioner Roger Goodell says it is good for the league that eight of the 12 teams in this year's playoffs are new.

West Ham and Crystal Palace among the club's interested in the Frenchman.

For Arsenal, the position is unenviable. That's lead many to speculate that Arsenal could sell Sanchez in January in order to recoup a transfer fee.

But when? City are flying high 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and Raheem Sterling - presumably a rival to play with Sanchez - is in the form of his life with 18 goals and four assists in 28 games.

It comes as a major boost to City, as it means he will not be cup-tied for the later rounds.

While it's likely to drag on, you sense both sides will eventually reach a compromise in this window.
