One Republican senator is saying that President Trump never made derogatory comments about certain countries while speaking about immigration.

Sen. Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, confirmed the Post's reporting, while Sen.

The remark, which Trump denied making Friday, prompted domestic and global backlash.

Some of Trump's allies (Rep. Steve Womack included) have defended the substance of the comments, but there hasn't been much dispute that the president referred to immigrants from "shithole countries" (that would be Haiti and certain African nations).

In a meeting with lawmakers last week, Trump reportedly questioned why the USA kept accepting immigrants from "shithole countries" such as Haiti, El Salvador and African nations, instead of accepting more immigrants from places like Norway. "Ask anyone who's dealt with both", Marter said.

Both Cotton and Perdue were in the Oval Office meeting in which Trump allegedly made those remarks, and Durbin said he heard them.

After being pressed, Cotton said, "I didn't hear it". "It is pretty shocking language, and to say I do not recall seems implausible".

Durbin alleged that a House Republican leader told Obama, 'I can not even stand to look at you'. "It was an impassioned conversation".

"I don't recall that specific phrase being used", she responded.
