Up to 4 inches of snow on the way

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Wednesday afternoon and evening in parts of southern New England.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.

Southeastern Massachusetts will see a burst of snow, resulting in no more than an inch of snow accumulated. Southeast wind around 5 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

We won't get much of a break between rounds of snow in the Stateline once today's showers end. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Calm wind becoming south around 5 miles per hour. The forecast from late this morning (an update is expected just before 4 p.m.) shows about four inches of snow falling on the western third of Sussex County with less to the east and south. Northwest wind 5 to 7 miles per hour.

WEDNESDAY: Snow will move out after "Daybreak", and we will see quiet weather for most of the day.

Thursday, the high will be near 47 with mostly sunny skies and a south southwest wind of 8 to 13 miles per hour, gusting as high as 24 miles per hour, the weather service said.

Danielsen said accumulation not exceeding 1 inch is possible. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24.

There's an outside chance it could chase down Buffalo's snowiest day this winter, January 17, when 6.3 inches of snow fell.

One calling for heavy snow in northern CT and another for a mixed bag of snow, sleet, and rain in the south. Wind-chill values could be as low as -10 degrees.

Thursday Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28.

Overnight lows are forecast to return to the teens.
