Island again sees highest graduation, lowest dropout rates of all boroughs

The statewide graduation rate for students within that time frame is 80.2 percent.

Among the Big 5 districts in New York State, Rochester still comes in last in terms of high school graduation rates.

That's the upshot of last year's graduation data released Wednesday by the State Education Department. "And that's good news".

"Yonkers is one of our most - if not our most - active My Brother's Keeper (districts)", Elia said.

The state's rate has ticked up each of the past five years, steadily increasing from 74.9 percent in 2013 after remaining flat at 74 percent in 2011 and 2012.

Of Idaho's larger high schools, 10 graduated more than 90 percent of their students - Eagle (West Ada), Madison, Hillcrest (Bonneville), Rocky Mountain (West Ada), Timberline (Boise), Highland (Pocatell0), Lake City (Coeur d'Alene), Boise and Capital (Boise). Across the state, the difference was about 20 percentage points. In Chautauqua County, students who are not considered economically disadvantaged graduated resulted in an 89 percent graduation rate, with 47 percent earning a Regents with Advanced Designation, while 75 percent of students who are considered economically disadvantaged graduated with 15 percent of those students earning a Regents with Advanced Designation. "At the same time, however, troubling gaps in achievement persist, and we must accelerate the pace of improvement".

Districts need to take a closer look at what can be done for those students to help them stay in school and graduate, Elia said.

Others noticed the gaps, as well. "Our kids are graduating high school and going to college at record rates, while dropping out less than ever before", Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a prepared statement.
