After missing all of last season with an injured back, kicker Sebastian Janikowski's time with the Oakland Raiders has come to an end after 18 seasons.

After 18 seasons with the Raiders, Janikowski will be released and apparently has no intention of calling it a career, via Michael Gehklin of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. But that didn't happen after the back injury sidelined him before the start of last season and Giorgio Tavecchio took over as kicker. Despite turning 40 next month, Janikowski will likely get a chance with another team if he wants to continue playing. His agent, Paul Healy, said in an email that Janikowski is too young to retire.

"His powerful left leg produced an NFL-record 55 field goals of 50-or-more yards". His 268 regular-season games played and 1,799 points scored are franchise records. ESPN first reported the conversation between the Raiders and Janikowski.

Janikowski has been with the team so long that his first two seasons were played under head coach Jon Gruden, who made his return to the team just weeks ago. Then-coach Jack Del Rio said Janikowski's back still ailed him. He ranks 10th overall in field goals made and 12th in attempts.

An Oakland Raider mainstay for nearly two decades is a Raider no more. Only one other player who is still in the league has been with one team as long as Janikowski. The Raiders can tender Tavecchio, who is an exclusive-rights free agent, a contract offer when free agency begins March 14.
