Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino apologises to Rochdale over pitch concerns

Yet Pochettino believes Tottenham, starved of silverware since winning the 2008 League Cup and without an FA Cup success in almost three decades, should be aiming higher than the world's oldest club competition.

From Turin on Tuesday to a resurfaced Crown Oil Arena, Spurs may be without main man Harry Kane who is reportedly suffering from a twisted ankle. "We need to assess him tomorrow", said Pochettino.

But Pochettino was eager not to get involved in a spat with the former Manchester United midfielder, and instead looked to defuse the situation.

At a press conference, the 45-year-old told reporters: "Yes, we're thinking of maybe giving him the possibility to start the game". After a busy period in the Premier League and Champions League it's important to assess every single player.

The Tottenham manager said: "I want to apologise to the people in Rochdale and the chairman and the people who took my comment the wrong way".
