During the talks between the two leaders, India is also believed to have briefed Iran about the role of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in attempts to destabilise the situation in Kashmir.

On the Chabahar project, a joint statement issued after the Modi-Rouhani talks said both sides reiterated their commitment for early and full operationalisation of Shahid Beheshti Port.

Modi said the two countries want a terror-free world and they were committed to stopping the expansion of those powers which encourage terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, cyber crimes and other worldwide crimes.

He said Iran has plan for the fraternity for India.

Iran, which used to be the second-biggest oil supplier to India before sanctions, is gradually raising its market share in the world's third-biggest oil consuming nation.

For her part, Swaraj said India is resolved to boost ties with Iran in all areas of mutual interest.

"We also had a great deal of discussion today on facilitating economic relations, preferential trade tariffs, better banking relations, visa relations and facilitating travel between the two countries for business purposes", he said. "Taking into account our mutual benefits, we are both committed to stop the forces of terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, cyber crime and other worldwide crimes", Modi said.

Rouhani also met India's Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. Amid growing bonhomie with Israel, India is hoping that Rouhani's visit and also Modi's own recent visit to Palestine will help dispel the notion that its West Asia policy is no longer on an even keel.
